The Southern Circuit embraces the well known Selous Game Reserve, Saadani, Mikumi and Ruaha National Park. Compared to the northern circuit these conservation areas are lesser frequented by the tourist with still developing infrastructure and perhaps the most natural unspoiled wilderness remaining in Africa. Due to its unique ecological importance, the Selous Reserve was designated a ‘World Heritage Site’ by United Nations in 1982. In the southern circuit one can see African wild dogs and huge herds of Elephants.
Dar es salaam the main commercial city of Tanzania is the base of all trips to the southern circuit including a visit to Mafia Island.
